Journal #2

The author of Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury, uses a lot of figurative language. Using similes and metaphors, characters and situations are described. Montag described Clarisse as being like candlelight, a clock, and a mirror. Montag also describes the machine on page 14, later in the book that pumped his wife's stomach, as “a black cobra down an echoing well looking for all the old water and the old time gathered there.” After arriving home, Montag found out that his wife, Mildred took too many sleeping pills. He called the emergency hospital and two men were sent. Laying in bed, he thought about all that happen that day and is not sure about anything anymore. He questions his love life and views everything in a different perspective. This can relate to people today. Often, we find ourselves questioning our views and choices in life.
