Journal #4

The book as became more suspenseful and interesting. Late at night, the fire station had a call. They went to a woman's house to burn books. Usually, police escort the owners out of the house, but this was different. She refused to leave, and her and her belongings went up in flames. This showed the brutality of the firemen. On page 38, there was situational irony. Montag, a fireman, took and hide a book under his coat. This could get him in a lot of trouble. I really like this part of the book, because it was fast paced and really suspenseful. Clarisse had mysteriously disappeared also. Due to futuristic terms and appliances, it is sometimes difficult in understanding the book. By using context clues, I observe and understand. On page 47, Mildred, Montag's wife, reveals that she believes Clarisse died by a car hitting her. Montag is sick the next day after burning the woman. He is questioning more and more, and he is becoming more skeptical about his life. I'm really sad Clarisse died this early into the book. I thought, in the beginning, that she would be one of the main characters.
